The Bearfoot Trail begins at mile marker 270 on the east side of Hwy 87. Here you will find parking for 4 to 6 cars. A small gate marks the entrance. The trail starts out heading south and then east towards the Rim.

The Bearfoot Trail meanders first through the fuel break adjacent to Portals 2, 3, and 4.  Here you will have views in all directions, especially to the south where Four Peaks is visible, along with multiple layers of mountain ridges.  And as you travel below the crest of the Mogollon Rim, you can almost reach out and touch it. Over the first four miles the grades are generally gentle with some of the trail surface being rocky sandstone.  The final distance is generally smoother and shadier as you travel through a canopy of pines, and ends in a forest blanketed with ferns, making you feel like you were transported to the Pacific Northwest. The trail ends north of Camp Lo Mia at the beautiful Bearfoot Bridge, which crosses Pine Creek Canyon.  The bridge was built in 2016 using funds raised from the Fire on the Rim Bike Race and assembled by PS Trails volunteers.

Please note that there are no exit points on the Bearfoot Trail. Users must do an out-and-back or use the Pine Canyon Trail 26 just beyond the Bearfoot Bridge.  Here trail users can go north on the Pine Canyon Trail 3 challenging miles to the top of the Mogollon Rim or 8 miles south on the Pine Canyon Trail to the Pine Trailhead.
