The Pine-Strawberry Trail runs approximately 4 miles from Hwy 87 to FSR 428 (Hardscrabble Mesa Road). This trail is part of the Fire On The Rim Mountain Bike race route, held annually in mid-September. Funds from this event are used to buy tools and equipment to build new or improve existing trails.
Trail 15 is best traveled from the Strawberry Trailhead (¼ mile south of Strawberry on the west side of Highway 87) to where it terminates in Pine on Hardscrabble Road but can be toured from either direction. The Strawberry Trailhead has ample parking. If starting on the Hardscrabble/FSR 428 side, there is a small pullout with space for 3 or 4 cars. This is also the starting point for the Walnut Trail 251.
Late autumn hikers will find stands of glorious red maple leaves that rival New England fall foliage. This beautiful display can be found in several of the drainages closer to the Strawberry Trailhead.
The Mohawk Trail in Pine provides an alternative entrance/exit route.
