Pine Strawberry Fuel Reduction used private donations from fundraisers to purchase the Firewise signs that are posted along main ingress and egress routes for citizens living in the communities of Pine and Strawberry. Gila County partnered to install the signs.
The idea behind this project is to keep fresh in everyone’s mind that wildfire is an ever present danger and that we must be constantly vigilant in order to maintain the gains we make via property clearing. Maintenance is the key to success in fuels reduction. Initial clearing is a one time accomplishment, while maintenance is an everyday process.
In 2018 the Firewise signs were redesigned to include 14 different tips on how to Firewise property. Those signs are rotated throughout the communities, so that the message is always new. These signs have proven to be effective education tools.
