We are super excited to announce the launch of the Neighbor Helping Neighbor program! This program is based on what we originally called Firewise Assistance almost three years ago! Covid put us on pause like the rest of the world but this important program is here at last.
The basic idea:
We have many in our community who are interested in having their property prepared for wildfire or as those in the biz might call it a defensible/survivable space around their home but due to physical or financial challenges they are not able to do so.
The list of benefits extends far beyond the individual homeowner. The more properties we can harden against wildfire, the safer our whole community will be. The more scrubby vegetation or ladder fuels we can remove also helps improve our watershed allowing our more mature vegetation to have more water resources resulting in the watershed and vegetation to be healthier overall and more resistant to disease and fire.
This is where you come in 🙂
Pine Strawberry Fuel Reduction now has a team of assessors that can visit properties of the home owners interested in the program, set a list of needs and then schedule work days with you our fabulous volunteers to help out these neighbors who want to be ready in case of a wildfire but haven’t been able to.
Neighbor Helping Neighbor volunteers would be asked to:
- clean up leaf/pine debris
- prune or remove small dead vegetation/ladder fuels
- move woodpiles away from the home
- load trailers with brush and bits for removal
- help haul and unload brush at the brush pit
We will be working 3 – 4 hours days, volunteers would need to dress appropriately with closed toe shoes, long pants, gloves, etc. Please remember to bring water too!
If you have tools such as leaf/pine needles rakes, pruning or trimming shears they are always welcome!
Thank you so much for being a part of our projects and programs we couldn’t do this with you!
