We are featured among the St Paddy’s Days activities in today’s Payson Roundup:
Janet Brandt, wife of retired Pine-Strawberry Fire Department captain and PSFR president, is responsible for securing most of the grants the group has received.
Mike Brandt is touting Trail #28 as a route where hikers are afforded stunning views.
Also on the PSFR agenda, two ends of Trail #26 (Pine Canyon Trail) have been reworked, but the middle section needs repairs. An Idaho contracting firm will undertake the project using funds from the Fire on the Rim bike race.
Plans are underway to build the new Camp Lo Mia trail, which will involve moving the gates back about 30-40 feet and building trailhead parking near the creek in front of the gates. An Eagle Scout project is expected to build a bridge near the entrance over Pine Creek and a new trail will be built on camp property connecting with Trail #26.
Janet Brandt also authored a Recreational Trails Program grant for about $37,000, which is expected to arrive soon. It will be used on a reroute of Trail #28 and to build a Firewise garden at the entrance to the Pine Trailhead.
