Seen at Firewise Day 2017

A typical blue sky Arizona Saturday was the setting for the second annual Firewise day held at the community center in Pine.

The Firewise Van is open to share educational information.

This free community event was designed to provide practical information to help property owners reduce the risk of a devastating fire, as well as to share more about this landscape we choose to make our homes in.

On hand was many representatives from the Pine-Strawberry Fire Department and Gila county emergency agencies, Farm Bureau Insurance (thanks for the pork sandwiches!), Tonto Search and Rescue, Pine Strawberry Trails, chimney sweep services, snakes, tortoises, and birds of prey… and even clowns.

The Pine-Strawberry Fire Department clowns.

Every hour brought presentations in the community center on fire safety, insurance, the brush pit, and evacuation procedures.

And there was a special celebration to dedicate a plaque and new sign in memory of Walt Smith, the big force behind the building the new pavilion we were standing under.

The Smith family is honored.

Here are a few more photos, all by me (Alan Levine) — these and more are available in full size and free for re-use from https://www.flickr.com/photos/cogdog/tags/firewiseday

Thanks to everyone who helped organize this great community event.
